Homemade Tawa Pizza Recipe

Tawa Pizza is no different from oven baked pizza. Even in terms of taste you can challenge any readymade pizza corner. From the pizza sauce, base, cream cheese to the seasoning everything has been made at home. I made two small sized pizzas for two adults.



The recipe for homemade Pizza is given in 5 sections:

Ingredients for Tawa Pizza Recipe:

Homemade Tawa Pizza Recipe: The Procedure

Like I said earlier, every part of this recipe is homemade. You must think the prep took a lot of time, but trust me it didn’t. I did it all with the few hours I could manage after coming back from office. At length, to dry the basil leaves (for preparing the seasoning), you may need to keep it under the sun for more than a day. The whole procedure is extremely easy and the taste is more splendidly rewarding. 

Section I: How to make Pizza Base:


Step1: Take 2 full cups of maida (all purpose flour) in a kneading bowl.


Step 2: Pour 100 grams curd on the flour and add 1½ teaspoons of red chili powder and baking powder (if you want a soft and fluffy base). Add salt and sugar as per taste.


Step 3: Start kneading the dough, sprinkle some water for smooth texture and knead it tight.


Step 4: Cover the dough and put it in the refrigerator for at least 7 hours.

Step 5: After 7 hours when you can see that the dough is fermented, take it out, knead it a bit more.

Step 6: Make two equal dough balls and with a rolling pin and base to make the Pizza base.


Step 7: Place a non-sticky frying pan or skillet on the gas burner in medium flame. Let it heat.

Step 8: Put the dough base in the skillet. Parch the base from both the sides and while baking keep the skillet covered for 30 seconds. Continue the process until it gets baked completely. When it becomes golden brown put it down and keep it aside. 


Your pizza base is ready.

Section II: How to make Pizza Sauce:


Step 1: Chop the tomatoes without peeling off their skin.

Step 2: Put a frying pan on the gas burner at medium flame and pour 3 tablespoons of oil and let it heat.

Step 3:  Pour the chopped tomatoes and garlic cloves in the frying pan. Fry till it gets dry.

Step 4: Add red chili powder and fry for a minute. Then add1 cup of water water put the lid on.

Step 5: When the water becomes almost dry, add sugar and salt. 


Step 6: Cook for a while and remove the frying pan from the gas.



Your Pizza Sauce is ready to be applied on the pizza base.

Section III: How to make Vegetable Topping for Homemade Pizza

Step1: Chop all the vegetables.


Step 2: Take a frying pan, put it on medium flame and add 2 tablespoons of butter.

Step 3: Now sauté the vegetables for a while and then add salt as per taste.


The vegetables are ready to be used as pizza topping.

Section IV: How to make Chicken Topping for Homemade Pizza

Step1: Wash 4 pieces of boneless chicken.


Step 2: Marinate these with salt as per taste, ¼th teaspoon of red chili powder and a pinch of turmeric powder and keep aside for 1 hour.

Step 3: Take 2 tablespoons of mustard oil (or as much required for light frying) in a frying pan. Please do not use too much oil to ensure the chicken pieces are NOT deep fried.

Step 4: Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown.


Step 5: Put the frying pan down, now mince the chicken pieces with knife and keep aside.


Shredded chicken is ready to be used as a topping for your homemade pizza.

Section V: How to make Pizza


Step1: Put a non-sticky frying pan/tawa/skillet without any oil or butter on medium flame.

Step 2: Now spread pizza sauce on one side of the base evenly and place the pizza base in the skillet on the side without any pizza sauce.

Step 3: Add vegetables and minced chicken one-by-one.

Step 4: Pour some cream cheese (as much as prefer) and put the lid back on the skillet.


Step 5: After few minutes transfer the Pizza on your serving tray.



Step 6: Add homemade seasoning and black pepper to spice up the pizza.


Trust me you can make better pizza than any “Hut” or “Dom” ;) 

Tips for making the dish:

1.      If you want a crusty base then do not add baking powder to the pizza base.

2.    If you are adding chicken toppings to the pizza, please ensure that the chicken pieces are not deep fried initially. Since you need to put bake it along with the pizza base and sauce in the end.
