Our Platter
A snapshot of our review.

1. Sonamati Special Soup

Decoding the dish: The soup was yummy, delicious and unexpectedly rich in flavours. Topped with egg foam, containing bits of chicken, shrimp, mushroom with added flavours of coriander leaves, garlic, lemon, sweet & salty balance. Surprise element is the panache added by salty egg foam, lemon & coriander.

WWEat thinks: It is a must try for all soup aficionados, especially if you are looking for quality without burning that pocket.

2. Sprite Chicken

Decoding the dish: Boneless chicken strips with red chili, soy sauce, tomato sauce, chopped coriander, chopped garlic, arrowroot coating and ajinomoto flavour.

WWEat thinks: Given the reputation of this dish being one of the best in this eatery, we had high expectations. However, it was bit of a letdown. It was like normal Spring Chicken with the spices turned up a notch.

3. Mocktails

(i) Badam Milk with Ice-Cream

Decoding the dish: Kesar, badam (almond), pista, kaju (cashew nut), kishmish (raisins), milk flavour with a topping of ice cream.

WWEat thinks: With every sip you shall have tiny crushed almond & pista. It was a fulfilling conclusion to the meal.

(ii) Black Diamond

Decoding the dish: Blackberry juice with rock salt flavor ice cream topping.

WWEat thinks: Instead of ice-cream or other usual deserts you can surely try this out. It’s like ‘Kala-  Khatta’ in your Mocktail Glass.

The Restaurant

The restaurant is spacious and the decor is of good disposition. However, they were a bit undecided on the lighting. It was somewhere between cosy and sparingly lit. The staff was responsive and knowledgeable.

The menu was standard and the day’s specials included 11 dishes (both Indian and Chinese cuisines). Many had recommended us to try out the Sprite Chicken of Sonamati so we ordered it on the side of “Sonamati Special Soup”. Their delivery was prompt with two bowls of hot and steaming soups right before us in just 10 minutes. In terms of presentation, we were really impressed. It looked like a bowl of Snow. Inside the innocent Snow White presentation, however, was an effusion of flavours that hits you unexpectedly and charms you equally.

The chicken also arrived as soon as we finished our soup. It must be mentioned that our goal was to have a light supper but the soup was heavy and by the time we had the chicken we were full. Therefore, we gotta give a thumbs up to the guys for quantity. In terms of quality, the Soup was awesomelicious, however the chicken was more of a disappointment (may be because we had high expectations build on it in the first place). It was ordinary, like any other spring chicken, except more on the hotter side. The best part though, is the price chart. From college students to a big fat Indian family, Sonamati is for the classes as well as the masses.

We concluded our pet puja with two mocktails of course: Black Diamond and Badam Milk with ice cream. Green Chilli went for the Black Diamond and she compares it with sipping Kalakhatta Gola in the Juhu beach. Sweet, salty, sour and yummy- that sums up the Black Diamond nicely. Red Chilli on the other hand went for the traditional ‘Badam Milk with Ice Cream’. It was simple, sober and full of the desi essences.
Thus concludes the anecdotes of Red Chilli and Green Chilli on a rather impulsive supper based on a sudden glorious opportunity (actually our boss left early). Why can’t it be like this every day?….Oh ahem, wait, wrong blog! (We’ll pine about this elsewhere).

So that’s all folks. Time for the
Chillies to go back to their not-so-chilling work. In the meantime, stay healthy, stay happy and don’t forget to lose yourself in the world of the F-word….Food :)
